Once upon a time there lived a normal person named "Normal"

Normal was born in a normal way from normal parents. Normal had a normal childhood, nothing so special, went to a normal school and graduated with a rather normal average. Normal went from one stage of his life to the other in a normal way, went to university and graduated normally from it. Normal then got a normal job with normal position and salary.

Normally, Normal decided to get married. Normal found himself a normal wife, had a normal wedding. Years later, Normal became a normal father to normal kids who normally grew up to be normal.Normal became a normal grandfather to his normal grandchildren. Few years later, Normal passed away in a normal way.

That my friends was the normal biography for some normal people we know living their normal lives...

BORING STORY!?!?!

Story of an Intern in Jordan

“I somehow felt it was the right place for me, I understood it. Thanks to all the wonderful people who took care of me, I haven't felt alone or unwelcome, not even once..”
- Olek Janiszewski, intern from Poland in Jordan

A rich professional experience in Information Management EXperts

Work here is really interesting and challenging, mostly because I have full responsibility and control over the project, that I'm working on. I'm really exercising my professional skills in software design, and although the project is quite big and serious, I feel I know how to put all the pieces together, and I make all the design decisions with high awareness. In the same time, since Imex doesn't actually use any project management practices, I can make use of my AIESEC management and leadership skills.

Living in the heart of the Middle East

I don't know if there are more similarities or differences between Poland and Jordan. Sure, the first impression is exotic, but not as much as one could expect. Well, there are two differences that come to my mind, though. Jordan is way safer and more peaceful than Poland and Jordanians are much more cheerful, proud and noble than most Poles. Living there was like a permanent holiday, even if I was working 10 hours a day on average.

Life-changing personal development

I was managing my work and life in a totally exotic country. It also showed me the power of AIESEC – without the support of the AIESEC system and AIESEC people, it would almost impossible to assimilate smoothly in Jordan. I used the management and leadership practices at my workplace to facilitate cooperation with my teammate. Thanks to being here I learnt to manage my life on my own, I became more self-confident and learnt a lot about myself (i.e. my preferred working style).

15 October, 2008

Celebrating 60 years of activating leadership, AIESEC congratulates alumnus and Nobel Laureate Martti Ahtisaari for his bold commitment to peace.

For the first time in 60 years, AIESEC is honored to congratulate an alumnus, and champion of the AIESEC vision of peace, for being awarded the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize.

"Nobel Laureate Martti Ahtisaari is a role model AIESEC alumni. His lifelong commitment to peace, participation and diversity reflects the best of 60 years of AIESEC history, enabling the leaders of positive change our world needs. On behalf of over 30,000 young people in more than 100 countries, I congratulate Martti Ahtisaari for his contribution to peace and the fulfillment of humankind's potential", said Juan Cajiao, President of AIESEC International.

Joining AIESEC as a young student in Finland in 1963, Martti Ahtisaari was immersed in an international environment that pre-empted his future as a global peacemaker. With his success in peaceful negotiations in Aceh, Namibia and Kosovo, Martti Ahtisaari has embodied bold leadership, forging international co-operation in seemingly intractable circumstances. Reflecting on his early engagement with AIESEC, Martti Ahtisaari welcomes the world to work more closely with young people in the pursuit of peace. "I support the valuable activities of AIESEC in Finland and internationally. Therefore I encourage organizations and companies to find out more about AIESEC and support the work of these young people.", said Martti Ahtisaari.

As an AIESEC alumnus, Martti Ahtisaari joins over 800,000 former members, including fellow statesmen Junichiro Koizumi and Jan Eliasson. Today AIESEC has grown into a leading platform for young people to truly discover their leadership potential and a real training ground for the world's next influential leaders.

"As a true leader of positive change, AIESEC thanks Martti Ahtisaari for his actions in bringing hope for a peaceful world to the young people of today", said Juan Cajiao.
